Tech News: Microsoft Releases an IPod Competitor
Wednesday, November 15th, 2006
If you haven't heard, Microsoft has just released a device which is meant to be an IPod Competitor (that sort of sound like an oxymoron, doesn't it?). It's called the Zune, and only time will tell if it has a prayer of taking a bite out of Apple's more than 80 percent share of the digital music player marketplace.
So is there anything to this latest geek-chic offering? Nobody thinks Microsoft is particuarly "cool", and the Zune is such a transparent attempt by the software behemoth to change that image. However, based upon the ads, packaging, and website for the Zune, Microsoft seems to be keeping its corporate logo as far away as possible. Not a bad idea.
