Social Bookmarking

What are those funny icons at the bottom of each blog post?

Below each post you'll find links to del.icio.us, spurl, and digg. The first two are sites for "social bookmarking"- the practice of saving links to important and useful web pages online, where you can access them later. By bookmarking a page on del.icio.us or spurl, it allows you to easily share it with other people on the net, and you have an opportunity to see what everybody else is bookmarking. When you bookmark a page, you can categorize it however makes sense to you so that you can easily find it later.

Digg works a little bit differently. When you "digg" a site, you are telling the world that the information on the page is useful and interesting. The more people who digg a site, the higher of a rating it gets on digg.com. You can see what the hottest stories and sites of the day are by visiting digg.com.
